繪本中的文字非常少，但正因為少，對作者的要求更高：它必須精練，用簡短的文字構築齣一個跌宕起伏的故事；它必須風趣活潑，符閤孩子們的語言習慣。因此，繪本的作者往往對文字仔細推敲，再三錘煉。更值得一說的是圖畫，繪本用圖畫講故事的方式，把原本屬於高雅層次、僅供少數人欣賞的繪畫藝術帶到瞭大眾麵前，尤其是孩子們的麵前。這些圖都是插畫傢們精心手繪，講究繪畫的技法和風格，講究圖的精美和細節，是一種獨創性的藝術。可以說，好的繪本中每一頁圖畫都堪稱藝術精品。
