For years, Nadezhda and Vera, two Ukrainian sisters, raised in England by their refugee parents, have had as little as possible to do with each other - and they have their reasons. 作者简介

Marina Lewycka was born in Kiel, Germany at the end of the war and grew up in England. She is the author of three bestselling novels: A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, Two Caravans and We Are All Made of Glue.

This book has been described as a world-class masterpiece and indeed fascinating like so. Once I open this book, I just can’t put it down. Thus I recommend this book for all of you, my dear friends. This book has been described as a masterpiece, and for good reason. Through this "genealogy" of history, Foucault shows us how modern society has become penal and coercive in nature; and perhaps more importantly, that all us now live in the midst of an abstract, authoritative public "gaze." Discipline and Punish is still relevant for today, even though the Panopticon has vanished. I think this book is brilliant and disturbing. It is not always easy to read, but then, what book worth reading is? Foucault is given to dramatic images, and he does little to mitigate the impact of these images on the reader. Perhaps he is really trying to increase this impact. 　　整本书在社会主义和资本主义以及希望的理想主义和现实的金钱主义之间冲突着。不仅仅是社会主义妹妹和资本主义姐姐的冲突，还有理想主义天真父亲为代表的男人们与现实主义“一种廉价的劳动力资源”瓦伦蒂娜为代表的女人们的冲突，更重要的是捍卫家庭的两姐妹与入侵掠夺的瓦伦蒂娜母子之间的冲突。这些冲突之中，突显了世界观、价值观、乃至人生观的冲突，作者精巧地将本质的生理需要和天真的心理需要编织在各种冲突中，近乎完整地展示了乌克兰人以及东欧斯拉夫人的性格特色。塑造了为了一己之欲差点一点致自己岳母惨遭“肃清”、又因一己之欲几乎毁掉自己晚年生活的父亲，更重要的是因此塑造了人生观价值观几乎完全相悖的两姊妹，从他们的身上让读者看见了那段不堪回首的历史，也由此达成了两姊妹和解后的全新的平和生活。

　　对于学习拉丁语的学生来说，这部词典是最佳的伴侣，因为“拉丁语—英语”的部分不仅包含动词的所有重要形式（如mitto, mittere, misi, missum），它还另外加上了动词的完成时形式（比如misi perf of mitto，即：misi为mitto完成时形式），为初学者提供宝贵的帮助，消除了查找单词来源的烦恼和困惑。每一词条的解释简明经典，而且这部词典回避“通过同源英语词解释拉丁语的单词”，比如拉丁语的occupatio被解释为taking possession，没有用英语的occupation。换言之，这部词典用很丰富的英语词汇来解释每个拉丁单词。在那些非常关键的单词那里也有一些搭配的词组，比如capio, capere（拿）：initium ~ （开始）。
