Nate's good friend Rosamond needs his help. Her cat, Little Hex, is missing. Little Hex hates Halloween, so maybe he's hiding. Or is he lost? Nate and his trusty dog Sludge take the case and hunt in the night for Little Hex. They pass robots, pirates, and witches. But where will they find Little Hex?

作者簡介

Marjorie Weinman Sharmat (born November 12, 1928 in Portland, Maine) is an American children's writer. Sharmat has authored more than 130 books for children and teens. Her books have been translated into several languages and have won awards, such as Book of the Year by the Library of Congress or have become selections by the Literary Guild. Very briefly in the 1980s, Sharmat also wrote Sorority Sisters, a romantic book series, which had a sense of humor. Among Sharmat's most popular books are those featuring child detective Nate the Great.

The story, Nate the Great Goes Undercover, was turned into a made-for-TV movie and won the Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival Award. In expanding the Nate the Great storyline, Mitchell Sharmat, Marjorie's husband created Olivia Sharp, Nate's cousin and fellow detective.

It seems that Rosamond's cat, Little Hex, has disappeared. Little Hex hates Halloween and likes to hide until all the tricking and treating are over, but this time Rosamond fears that Little Hex may really be lost. Nate investigates, making his usual pithy observations along the way. His inquiry even takes him to a ramshackle old house that may be haunted. But the obvious clues lead nowhere. The detectives are stumped until they brainstorm over their favorite snacks: pancakes for Nate and a bone for Sludge. Once again Nate's keen powers of observation and deductive reasoning save the day. Simont's familiar illustrations are appropriately dark for this All Hallows mystery. All the regulars are back in Nate's latest mystery, and as fresh as ever. Readers will still marvel at Nate's brains, ingenuity, and his undying devotion to pancakes.
