Humanist, skeptic, acute observer of himself and others, Michel de Montaigne (1533u92) was the first to use the term 'essay'a to refer to the form he pioneered and he has remained one of its most famous practitioners. 濛田隨筆我二十年前看過中譯本的，感到翻譯的不理想，但我又不懂法文，原文還是古法文寫的。現在有英文譯本，對比一下看看。
