Gilbert Strang was an undergraduate at MIT and a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. His Ph.D. was from UCLA and since then he has taught at MIT. He has been a Sloan Fellow and a Fairchild Scholar and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a Professor of Mathematics at MIT, an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Strang has published eleven books:

He was the President of SIAM during 1999 and 2000, and Chair of the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics. He received the von Neumann Medal of the US Association for Computational Mechanics, and the Henrici Prize for applied analysis. The first Su Buchin Prize from the International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Haimo Prize from the Mathematical Association of America, were awarded for his contributions to teaching around the world. 评分##我居然坚持下来了!很感动,依依不舍。Strang教授采用注重体验、注重知识点背后的数学原理和知识点之间的联系、理论和实际相结合、不在一开始用枯燥的定义和证明填鸭学生的教学方式,让从来就讨厌数学的我体会到线性代数之美。从代数理论体系下多个角度看待同一数学现象,获取的美妙感受是难以言表的。Strang教授幽默风趣有少年气,很羡慕他这种发自内心沉浸在工作中的状态。配套教材有些微言大义(想起当初学江元生《结构化学》的感受,文字简洁深奥第一遍看不懂),初学者一边听课一边读书效果更佳。
