Roald Dahl was born in 1916 in Wales of Norwegian parents. He began writing after a 'monumental bash on the head', sustained as an RAF pilot during WW2. Roald Dahl is one of the most successful and well-known of all children's writers. His books include CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, THE BFG and MATILDA. Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. He spent his childhood in England and, at age eighteen, went to work for the Shell Oil Company in Africa. When World War II broke out, he joined the Royal Air Force and became a fighter pilot. At the age of twenty-six he moved to Washington, D.C., and it was there he began to write. His first short story, which recounted his adventures in the war, was bought by The Saturday Evening Post, and so began a long and illustrious career.
After establishing himself as a writer for adults, Roald Dahl began writing children’s stories in 1960 while living in England with his family. His first stories were written as entertainment for his own children, to whom many of his books are dedicated.
Roald Dahl is now considered one of the most beloved storytellers of our time. Although he passed away in 1990, his popularity continues to increase as his fantastic novels, including James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, delight an ever-growing legion of fans.

Upon encountering the title "Going Solo," my mind immediately conjured a sense of adventure and personal quest. This isn't just a title; it's an invitation to embark on a journey, one where the protagonist stands alone against the world, or perhaps, finds themselves in the world for the very first time. The inclusion of the English title, "Going Solo," alongside its Chinese translation, "独闯天下," speaks to a potential dual readership and a desire to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps, which I find commendable. My personal preference leans towards experiencing literature in its original tongue, and the promise of an English original here is a significant draw. The specified age group, "12岁及以上" (12 and up), suggests a narrative that is both engaging for younger readers and substantial enough for adults, likely exploring themes of adolescence, independence, and self-discovery without being overly simplistic. The mention of a paperback edition further enhances its appeal, making it an easily portable and accessible read for anyone eager to dive into this solo adventure.

The very title, "Going Solo 独闯天下," sparks an immediate sense of anticipation and curiosity. It hints at a narrative brimming with independence, self-reliance, and the thrill of venturing into uncharted territories. For me, as a reader who finds immense satisfaction in stories that chronicle personal growth and the courage it takes to face the world alone, this book feels like a compelling prospect. The fact that it's presented as an English original with a translated title is a bonus; it allows for the appreciation of the author's original voice while offering a readily understandable entry point. The target audience of "12岁及以上" (12 and up) suggests a story that will resonate with younger readers on a foundational level of understanding independence, while also holding deeper thematic relevance for older individuals reflecting on their own life journeys. The practical detail of it being a paperback edition makes it all the more inviting, suggesting accessibility and ease of use for those who enjoy carrying their current read wherever they go. I'm particularly drawn to the idea of a narrative that celebrates the strength found within oneself when faced with the challenges of going it alone.

When I saw the title "Going Solo," I was immediately intrigued. The very phrase conjures images of independence, self-reliance, and the thrill of venturing into the unknown. As someone who enjoys stories that explore personal growth and the challenges of navigating life on one's own, this book immediately caught my eye. The fact that it's an English original, coupled with a translated title, suggests it's aimed at a broad audience, and I appreciate the opportunity to engage with the original text while having the convenience of a translated title for quick reference. The age recommendation of 12 and up indicates that the narrative will likely possess a certain level of maturity and complexity, which is something I look for in my reading. I'm particularly interested in how the author will portray the protagonist's journey of self-discovery and resilience. Stories that empower young readers to embrace their own strength and explore their capabilities are incredibly valuable, and I anticipate "Going Solo" will be one such narrative. The paperback format further adds to its accessibility, making it a convenient companion for travel or quiet moments of reflection.
