he Mitten作者以及绘图作者是鼎鼎大名的Jan Brett（珍•布瑞德），她是来自美国的绘本作家, 以女性特有的细腻、情感丰富的天性、对细微处的要求、用色鲜艳华丽，让你一看就知道是她的作品。The Mitten是她最出名的一本，取材于乌克兰民间故事，做了改编。讲一个小孩丢了手套，森林里的动物从小到大，一个接一个的钻进手套的故事。开头是男孩的祖母给他织手套，他偏要白颜色的，祖母说，白色的掉到雪上，就不好找了，可他不听，还是要。所以就有了一双白手套。果然，他出去还没一会儿，手套就掉了。他在爬树。画面上看，他还在家门前。往后的故事情节就是小动物一个一个从小到大，钻进手套里。插图的巧妙在于，打开书，左右页是通页，完整的叙事画面，主画面描画的是围绕手套的。在左右各有一幅小图，像是话外音一样，左图画的是男孩的行踪，右边画的是被顽皮的男孩惊出冬眠的家的小动物，而这个小动物，就是下一页出现在主画面上，把白手套当成家的动物了。所以，不看文字，只看插图，就是一个完整的故事。结尾是小老鼠的胡子引得熊打个大喷嚏，所有的动物都飞出了手套，手套也腾空飞起，刚好落在男孩手里，祖母在窗口看到了一切，男孩还得意地说，“看哪，奶奶，我的两只手套都在！”最后一页，是迷惑不解的祖母看着手里一大一小两只白手套。
