Emily Wilson is a professor of classical studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
Composed at the rosy-fingered dawn of world literature almost three millennia ago, The Odyssey is a poem about violence and the aftermath of war; about wealth, poverty, and power; about marriage and family; about travelers, hospitality, and the yearning for home.
This fresh, authoritative translation captures the beauty of this ancient poem as well as the drama of its narrative. Its characters are unforgettable, none more so than the "complicated" hero himself, a man of many disguises, many tricks, and many moods, who emerges in this version as a more fully rounded human being than ever before.
Written in iambic pentameter verse and a vivid, contemporary idiom, Emily Wilson's Odyssey sings with a voice that echoes Homer's music; matching the number of lines in the Greek original, the poem sails along at Homer's swift, smooth pace.
A fascinating, informative introduction explores the Bronze Age milieu that produced the epic, the poem's major themes, the controversies about its origins, and the unparalleled scope of its impact and influence. Maps drawn especially for this volume, a pronunciation glossary, and extensive notes and summaries of each book make this an Odyssey that will be treasured by a new generation of readers.
##讀過《奧德賽》以後,奧德修斯這個人物給我留下印象最深的地方並不是他的聰明機智,反而是他的殘暴。奧德修斯的機智人所共知,史詩中的多處情節都反映齣瞭這個人的“機敏”。不過,當奧德修斯重新踏上伊塔卡的土地之後,他個性中發揮最大影響的因素便不再是機智,而是殘暴(或...
評分##這版翻譯真的太絕瞭,見微知著,like the cloth of Ponelope weaved unwoven.
是奧德賽的第一位女性譯者又如何呢,若是在Hades遇到Penelope,兩人也隻能have a silent cup of tea吧。Fidelity, such a lonely word.
評分 評分##Excellent translation! I went to her talk at Yale. Such a sharp and attentive scholar. When she read out aloud her own translation--Penelope's dream and the massacre of the suitors, I was enamored by her words. She genuinely loves Homer and her passion for this literature just exuberated in the lecture hall. Energy overflows in her translation!
評分##非常棒,吐血推薦。
