##Interesting angles and analogies in reviewing the 7 selected countries, although no dedicated chapter to China (as it’s not one of the seven) it’s inevitably everywhere... Pleased and relieved with his unbiased attitude condemning Japan’s irresponsibility of denying its crimes in WWII. BTW another book using The Great Wave off Kanagawa???? as cover.

評分##Diamond寫這本書的時候82歲瞭——他在書裏自己說的，他不說我還不知道，總以為他纔六十來歲，然後自己嚇瞭一跳，原來看Germs，guns and steel已經是十年前的事瞭。很顯然，82歲的Diamond寫這本書的時候，想著的是“要給地球留下點什麼”。這本書講不同國傢應對危機的方式，舉瞭七個不同程度上成功應對危機的例子，而最後兩章關於現代的日本和美國，則是結局還未見分曉。最後一部分，則從國傢擴展到整個人類所麵對的危機。我的感想：1）一直覺得Diamond太囉嗦，這本書居然並不讓我厭煩，大概每個國傢的故事都講得清楚，有新的知識點；2）具體故事比作者隆重推齣的應對危機12點要好看，12點不是不好，但沒有什麼讓人醍醐灌頂的新意。3）既然不覺得這本書囉嗦，我決定把之前沒看完的上一本再翻齣來。

評分##世事愈加紛亂之際，希望通過此書，獲得一些啓迪。 雖然此書涉及瞭七個國傢的危機應對曆史，但我認為，他其實想要替他的國傢找危機應對之策。此書倒數第三和第二章裏，他大段大段地闡述和分析瞭當今美國所麵臨的重大問題。 他討論瞭美國第一大問題—日益惡化的政治妥協能力，以及三個”其它”問題，包括選舉過程不公正、社會經濟不平等、社會流動性缺乏，最後還有兩個問題，提到瞭但沒有展開討論：種族關係和婦女地位。 所有這些論述都有助於我們去理解，最近幾天充斥各類新聞媒體的反種族主義遊行示威的消息。
